Lavaltrie’s Place du 350e design unveiled! – Images and video

In 2020, the City of Lavaltrie commissioned Atelier Urbain to take advantage of its upcoming 350th anniversary to deploy a new public square reflecting the city’s values, history and future. The Place du 350e development project was part of the downtown area’s Plan particulier d’urbanisme (PPU).

Located in the downtown area, on the land adjacent to the presbytery, Place du 350e is a colorful gathering place of identity, highlighting Laval’s history. The City’s intention was to create a peaceful and lively space that citizens of all ages could make their own. The construction work was completed in 2022 and inaugurated in September of the same year.

Inspired by the theme of tales and legends, Place du 350e sparkles in the evening. Lights embedded in the ground give it the air of a constellation, shimmering with mystery and magic. What’s more, in honor of Lavaltrie’s founding families, the risers of the chapel’s forecourt have been engraved with their family names, making the site entirely unique. It’s a warm and friendly gathering place, where Lavaltroises and Lavaltrois can attend artistic performances, a variety of events, or simply take a break, while enjoying a splendid view of the St. Lawrence River.

We are very proud to have designed a space that is both unifying and aesthetically pleasing. We would like to thank the Ville de Lavaltrie for its confidence in us, and for carrying out the project in accordance with the design proposals. A magnificent centerpiece of the City of Lavaltrie’s 350th anniversary legacy, Place du 350e will endure through the years, to the delight of current and future residents alike.
